In the Town of Islip, the right and center lanes of eastbound Sunrise Highway (Route 27) will be closed nightly at exit 48 from 10 p.m. to 6 am. beginning Sunday, Jan. 21 and lasting two weeks.

The northbound right lane of Locust Avenue will also be closed during those times, according to the Department of Transportation.

Both stretches will again close from 9 p.m. Friday, Feb. 2 to 6 a.m. Monday, Feb. 5, with both directions of Locust Avenue also shutting down.

During the closures, crews will perform maintenance work on the Locust Avenue bridge.

Transportation officials warned of possible delays and reminded drivers that fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone.
